Money was also left over from budgets meant for one-off spending. These windfalls were offset by higher costs for youth care, the Wmo, the law on support for people who need help at home, and the Participatiewet, the law on social assistance and work. More money also had to be set aside for the pensions of current and former members of the municipal executive, because those pensions will move to the public sector pension fund ABP in 2028.
“The municipality's financial position remained solid in 2025, but we are facing a declining financial outlook. In the run-up to the 2027 budget, a savings programme has already been set in motion,” says Sonja Hilgenga, alderman for finance.
The municipal executive has sent the annual report and accounts to the council, which will discuss them on Thursday 25 June. The interim report will also be on the table then, with a proposal to adjust a number of budgets and an overview of how the plans in the 2026 budget are progressing. According to the municipality, most of them are on schedule.
In 2025 the municipality launched Nij Begun, a grant for insulation, and cycle hubs, escape tours and package deals were added for holidaymakers. The municipality also worked on its housing vision, the Woonvisie, and there was a lot of building.
