From now on, first-time buyers can also use the loan to finance an energy-saving budget, as well as additional work and improvements to the house, as long as the total costs stay below the affordability limit. Until now that was not possible. What is more, the loan can now also be used for a new-build home.
The scheme was changed because, according to estate agents, the old limit of €325,000 had become too low now that houses are more expensive. There was also demand for more options for new-build homes and for room to finance extra costs. In addition, SvN, the national fund that runs starter loans for municipalities, has a new model regulation with extra options such as borrowing to make a home more sustainable.
