New asphalt on Gieterstraat near Rolde has developed ridges

Two years after Gieterstraat near Rolde was rebuilt, ridges have appeared in the asphalt. According to the municipality of Aa en Hunze, the ground under the road seems to have sunk slightly, which may explain the ridges.

The municipality received reports about the ridges and investigated them together with the contractor that built the road at the time and the supplier of the gravel columns. These columns were used to improve the subsoil during the reconstruction: where the ground had subsided, it was filled with gravel so that the road rests on a firmer base. The investigation showed that the road was built as specified.

The municipality will keep monitoring the road and, if necessary, will have the ridges repaired in consultation with the contractor.
