A main building, for example, no longer needs a minimum floor area before it may be split, and a property may now be divided into more than two homes. With this the municipality wants to create extra living space and more movement on the tight housing market. According to alderman Ivo Berghuis, it means that older people, for example, can keep living in their own area.
“At the same time, we will keep an eye on the spatial quality and character of our countryside,” says Berghuis.
When a permit is applied for, the plan is assessed against the criteria in the new policy rules, so that none of the area’s heritage or townscape value is lost. Anyone who wants to know what is possible with their own property can contact the municipality.
