New cycle route past eleven dolmens starts in Rolde

The municipality of Aa en Hunze has laid out a new cycle route past eleven dolmens, called the Steengoed Rondje. The route officially starts at junction 70 of the cycle network in Rolde, where there is parking on the corner of Gieterstraat and Grolloërstraat.

The route comes in a 27-kilometre and a 38-kilometre version. Both follow the network of cycle junctions, so cyclists can join at any junction along the way. They pass Rolde's two dolmens and the one at Eext, among others; according to Het Drentse Landschap, the province's nature and heritage trust, the long route passes all eleven dolmens in the municipality.

Cyclists ride through the stream valley of the Drentsche Aa and the UNESCO Global Geopark De Hondsrug. Anyone who wants to stop along the way can call in at cafés and restaurants, rest stops and cycle hubs, where e-bikes can be charged and there are repair stands.

For children there are tasks that open with a QR code. The municipality does ask cyclists to treat the dolmens with respect and not to climb on them, because they are burial monuments.

The route and the tasks are online at Het Drentse Landschap. Anyone who would rather have a leaflet can pick one up at the town hall in Gieten.
